What is the imagine initiative?

The Imagine Initiative is a three year journey that we will take individually and as a church to more fully accomplish the work that God has given us to share the gospel and make disciples who follow Jesus and show others the way.

Imagine you or a visitor walking into Cornerstone and clearly seeing a welcoming central gathering place, a secure check-in for children, a space for the celebration worship service, and easy access to Bible classes.

Imagine instead of a crowded space through which to maneuver, a large comfortable lobby that encourages people of all generations to increase the time they spend connecting and deepening their relationships at church.

Imagine reaching more people with the good news of Jesus Christ.  Church buildings are not about bricks and mortar; they are about helping people come close to God and come close to others.  This is becoming increasingly important in a disconnected and impersonal world.

Imagine removing the barriers that keep people away from Jesus.  Imagine our guests and attendees having the best experience possible, giving them the place and space to get to know Jesus and make friends.

The Imagine Goals

The Primary Goal: Participation and Growth

Now is the time for us to come together and heighten the unity of our church by advancing the vision.  When we take a step of faith, we grow personally, and we get to see the power of God working in our lives.

The Secondary Goal:  3.4 Million

Our total building and renovation project is $3.4 million.  Our congregation has voted to move ahead with the project when $2.2 million is pledged.  We would then secure a loan for no more than $1.2 million.  We are trusting that God can give more than we ask or imagine through His people who put their faith in Him.

Proposed building project

On June 10th the members of Cornerstone Christian Church voted in strong support for the Building Project proposal and for the initiation of a related Capital Campaign.  This vote followed a series of Cornerstone Community Meetings (12 presentation meetings) which described the proposed Project itself, the reasons for it, and the alternatives that had also been considered in arriving at the final proposal.

Voting results were 80/20 in support of both the Building Project and the related Capital Campaign. In view of this strong level of support, the elders subsequently met and formally made a decision to proceed on both fronts.

In the church-wide survey conducted after the first Community Meetings, the question was posed as to whether the respondents supported the vision for the Building Project and related Capital Campaign. Two hundred thirty-two (232) persons responded to the question, with 69% stating “Yes” and 19% stating “Not Sure.” The vote of 80% in favor indicates a significant shift in approval (from 69% to 80%) as the members of Cornerstone gained more understanding of the Project itself and the reasons for it.

Of course, votes on proposals of this magnitude having significant impact on the members of an organization are never unanimous, and alternative views and opinions are to be respected. In the informational Community Meetings it was stated that the proposed Building Project would face two key decision points: The first would be a formal vote of approval by the members of Cornerstone. That occurred on June 10th. The second would be reflected in the results of the Capital Campaign conducted to raise the financial support for the project. That Campaign will now be initiated and will unfold in coming weeks.

The eldership and the staff are very excited about the prospects this project holds for significant enhancements to Cornerstone’s work and mission in the Brownsburg community. We believe the changes embodied in the Project will improve and strengthen the attributes that many people have stated to be special at Cornerstone—the warm, friendly, and accepting nature of its members and their commitment to worshipping the Lord and serving His people.

In coming weeks more will be communicated about the Building Project as well as the Capital Campaign as the plans are advanced for each. Updates and information will be conveyed in The Rock, on the church website, and in other forums as well.

As Cornerstone embarks on this important path, we beseech each person to keep it all before the Lord in fervent prayer, such that His will is clearly discerned and His kingdom work on earth is advanced through His Church at Cornerstone. Proverbs 19:21
